Lost Finale Thoughts

The End of Lost

There have been two camps that have developed in the day or so since ABC’s Lost ended its six season run on Sunday May 23.  In one camp are fans who feel like the series finale was a satisfying end to the show, while in the other camp reside those who feel Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse cheated them out of answers… like finding out who built the big Egyptian statue, or where the original Jacob and MIB came from (before the shipwreck that ended up in their pregnant mother giving birth to them on the island), or what the heck was under that big rocky plug in “the heart of the island.”

Before the finale, I was eager to get a lot of answers too.  Cold, hard facts were what I thought would bring the series to a satisfying conclusion.  In The End, however, it wasn’t really about facts and certainty about the minutia of the show.  Like much of the great art in the world, what mattered were the emotions that were elicited by the work.  How you cared about this wonderful group of characters (who were more than ably performed by an ensemble cast that was truly a gift to both the writers of the show as well as the dedicated viewers) was what really mattered.   The fact that there were so many loose ends allows those of us who truly loved this series to continue to discuss and analyze it for a long time to come, rather than possibly of being let down by explanations that would fail to resonate or could have utterly ruined the entire series in the final 2 ½ hours.

To a certain extent, it could be argued that Lindelof and Cuse took the easy way out and allowed the show to wrap with us simply finding out how everyone ultimately ended up.  I guess I would argue that sometimes the easy thing is actually the smartest / best thing.

As for my own theories on the show, (which are evolving and involve spoilers, so don’t read further unless you have already seen the finale), I think it’s pretty safe to say that “sideways world” in the final season was a place where everyone was dead all along – kind of like purgatory.  David (Jack’s son in “sideways world”) was a fabrication in Jack’s mind to allow him to resolve issues he had with his own father.  As for the rest, I’m waiting until the entire series comes out on BluRay in August to start the process of watching it all over again from episode 1.

Now that both  Lost and 24 are now off the air, I officially can divorce myself from TV for anything other than news and sports. :)

Such a great moment in retrospect…

I’m so pumped… Round 2 starts tonight at home in the Igloo against the Habs… who did hockey fans everywhere a solid by dumping first seed Crapitals  in round 1.  Now, with respect, it’s their turn.  ;)  Let’s hope none of our guys are so classless as to jinx the series the way OvenChicken did…

Perspective on Budget Cuts…

This is a terrific video (in the same spirit of Ben Cohen’s Nuclear BB’s video - albeit from the other side of the political spectrum).

You Are

Hey Sit down and listen and they’ll tell you when you’re wrong
Eradicate but vindicate as “progress” creeps along
Puritan work ethic maintains its subconscious edge
As old glory maintains your consciousness
There’s a loser in the house and a puppet on a stool
And a crowded way of life and a black reflecting pool
And as the people bend the moral fabric dies
Then country can’t pretend to ignore it’s people’s cries
You are the government
You are the volition
You are jurisdiction
And I make a difference too

I’m not really sure what this is all about…

…but I found this online and thought it was kind of funny.

Nerducation: GSM vs. CDMA

For those of you who are wondering what GSM or CDMA are all about (which speaks to the differences between many mobile phone carriers like AT&T vs. Verizon, for example), I’d direct you to this terrific article.

George Should Make A Star Wars Movie Like This…

I realize George Lucas said all along that the “back-story” of Darth Vader’s origins wasn’t nearly as exciting as the whole Luke Skywalker storyline.  That is the only reason I am willing to accept the rather dull Episodes I - III (a.k.a. the “Prequel Trilogy”).

Now, if George wanted to redeem himself, he should make a Star Wars movie like the trailer for this video game…  THAT would rock!
